Opportunities and challenges

The construction sector, particularly cement production and its main consumer, ready-mix concrete, lies at the core of the climate challenges facing our society. In July 2021, the European Commission introduced a series of measures to adapt the European Union's climate, energy, transport and taxation policies. This with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared with 1990 levels. This is what is known as the Green Deal for Europe.

The GO4ZERO initiative charts a course towards producing carbon-neutral clinker and cement by 2029, leveraging a multifaceted strategy aimed at achieving carbon neutrality.

GO4ZERO stands out as a ground-breaking project thanks to the complete capture of CO2 at the clinker kiln exit, and its innovative approach, which incorporates a range of cutting-edge technologies recognised at European and world level.

The success of a project of this scale requires close collaboration between partners with diverse expertise, involved at different levels, from the definition of environmental objectives to the international promotion of the project.

GO4ZERO mobilises the involvement of private partners and public authorities, all united around a common objective: to produce a low-carbon cement for more sustainable construction and to contribute to the fight against climate change.
